Bauhütte 4.0 is a Gigafactory-like production unit, R&D center and open city lab for urban scale timber construction on the grounds of former Tegel Airport in Berlin. It enables construction of the Schumacher Quartier, a sustainable living quarter being set up to accommodate more than 5.000 housing units.
The current construction industry is responsible for 40% of global carbon emissions.
